At 6am on 25th October 1999, BBC News 24 relaunched with presentation, idents and a general look similar to news on BBC One. Tim Orchard, controller of BBC TV News wanted the channel to be seen as "the heart of the BBC News operation - viewers turning to the channel will instantly recognise the relationship with the flagship bulletins on BBC One." The look was created by
Martin Lambie Nairn and his team - Martin designed the original flag motif for BBC News 24. |

Countdown
to the Hour
In the run up to the hour BBC News 24 shows a countdown. This varies in length between each hour and the full original version is available below. It lasts 90-seconds and was first seen on Friday 10th March at 1:58.30am as the crossover between BBC One and BBC News 24. It also has a fantastic
backing tune.
At 9am on Monday 13th January 2003 the countdown changed. Still with the same music but now around three 'live-action' versions featuring people and time. Usually a menu is overlaid giving details about programmes in the next few hours. |
